May 2018

May has been one of the busiest months!

Deborah interviewed the owner of the nursery that once operated at Brickfield Church, who gave a fascinating insight into working in one of the oldest buildings in the area, as well as her earlier training and working life as a children’s nurse in London.

During the monthly Local Forum, Marieta and Gareth presented their research on the Old Dispensary in Romford Road. This was followed by a discussion about research sources, challenges and how they overcame them, while Fiona presented old maps of the area that were accessible on-line.

I gave a talk on ‘Discovering Stratford Village’ during the ‘History Month’ held at the Royal Dock Learning and Activity Centre in North Woolwich, which was well attended.

Last but not least, Alison and I concluded the month participating at a ‘E20 Lates’ community event organized by Get Living London, where a wide range of local residents (most of them new to the area) learnt about the rich heritage of Stratford Village.
