Week after week, Stratford Village’s streets are uncovering the working lives of past occupants.
While our oral history process is starting to capture the voices of current residents, a group of trained and enthusiastic archive researcher volunteers is discovering many (extra) ordinary lives of local residents from 1890, revealing an eclectic community of watchmakers and hair dressers, porters, railway engine drivers and milliners, printer compositors and pyjama suit finishers. Through Census sheets, photographs and oral histories, these Discovering Stratford Village hidden stories will populate a small exhibition at Sylvia’s Corner during Newham Heritage Awareness Festival: a drop-in event in the heart of E15.
