April 2018 – work progresses

We opened the month with a promotional stand at the Sir Ludwig Guttman Health and Wellbeing Centre Open Day in Stratford. Local residents came along to learn about local business, community services and other projects – including our local heritage.

To support the recording of more oral history interviews, we have delivered an Oral History Workshop at Stratford Library, providing two more volunteers with the essential skills to interview local residents about their working lives.

On the archive research side, I have visited St John’s Church in Stratford to look at the Register of Baptisms from the 1930s to 1960s. The Register provided a great source of information during the war time, when many local residents’ occupations were listed as ‘Soldier’, ‘Army’, ‘RAF’. This information complements the 1939 Register data we have researched so far, and offers a deeper insight into the working lives of Stratford Village residents.
